Well said Doc. Congratulations to JD Horn for defending for Medford in the first tournament last night. And congratulations to Mitzy Wilson for winning it back for Grants Pass in the second tournament. I agree a big congratulations goes to Dion for his baptism by fire in running two tournaments with over 100 people in them! I think the first had 103 and the second 107! Wow....we only had 113 in the last state tournament! While Dion gets the kudos as tournament director, obviously Jason H. also played a big part in making the night successful as well as several other Medford players who helped with the chip ups and such. I remember seeing Bill Allen, Jason Rhine and a few others scurrying around during the break helping make sure everything was running smoothly. I believe I even remember a Grants Pass player or two helping out in that area too. A special thanks to all the players who dealt last night. I know from dealing myself that it can distract from your game and you all did a great service by agreeing to deal. We all appreciate it! Thanks to all the players who made the trip from Coos Bay, Roseburg, Canyonville, Grants Pass and the two who were here from Klamath Falls! I had a great time playing against you all! It was fun to sit at the same table with our latest state champion (Rosemary Woida) and the points leader for the entire league (Rod Shettlesworth). What a table!! Oh, and yeah....sorry Rod....and darned you Rosemary!! ;-) I hope we can all play together again soon. Finally a huge thank you must go to Scott Stuebing for suggesting the triple points night idea in the first place right here on our little message board. If you will remember Scott not only suggested a triple points night, he offered to pony up the extra 1,000 points for the winner! Admin stepped up and endorsed the triple points night and said the league would put up the 1,000 extra points. Good job guys!! (and girl....Lori) For those of you who weren't able to be there I'll tell you that Scott ended up heads-up in the first tournament with JD Horn. It was just a few minutes before 9:00 p.m. and the second tournament was due to start. JD had a dominating chip lead over Scott and instead of dragging things out, Scott showed a lot of class and conceded the game to JD. I'm not suggesting this was a hollow victory for JD because surely he would have won anyway, I'm just pointing out that instead of being stubborn and delaying everything, I believe Scott realized that if he conceded he would assure that everyone who had traveled so far to play would be granted a second chance for triple points! "The needs of the many are greater than the needs of the one." (anybody name the source of that quote for me?) Anyway thanks Scott for the original idea and for being a stand up guy in the actual tournament. I've almost hippo-crushed this soapbox so I'll step down now. See you at the Uptown on Sunday!! ---------- Ron
