Mucked Cards or Not???

A problem that I have seen too often by dealers has to stop. Twice last night in Medford I saw people muck their cards and the dealer give them back to the players. The first time at the end of the hand the dealer turned them over and looked at them, saw that they "would" have won and gave them back to the player, along with the "pot". They next table I was at a player mucked their cards after someone went "all-in" 1000 more. The dealer gave the cards back to the player and convinced the player to look at their cards and think about it. That hand ended up being a split pot between the two. I had a talk with Dion during a break and brought it to his attention so that in the future dealers are made aware not to do this. Let's hope what is a pretty good thing we have going gets a little bit better. "K-5" RULES!!!!! Doc Wilson

I agree that dealers shouldn't be making these decisions. If a hand is mucked b/c of confusion or b/c a player misunderstood what the player said then get the TD involved. Something like this happened at my table I was dealing but it wasn't a blatant fold, there were no cards in the muck, and his cards were basically in the same position on the table before he picked them up. I wasn't sure what his action was so I told him how much more it was to call and he then called. Not sure if that was one of the examples but next time I'll make sure to ask if it was a fold if I'm not sure in the future.

Also if the player says "fold", verbal action is binding, whether or not the player actually pushes the cards forward or to the dealer, also the dealer or any other player convincing a player to play or to fold their cards violates the one person to a hand rule.

There are a lot of little rules in poker and sometimes they are mi-interpreted, or misunderstood, that is why we have the TD'S, if you see something that you are not sure of, and if you think it may affect the outcome of a hand or the tournament, ask the TD right there. this way everyone benefits from the ruling of the TD, in understanding the rule, not to say that the TD always have been given the right info, but at least its consistent.

Here is an idea, how about a rule of the day announcement, or maybe rule of the week posting. the first would be the TD during their announcements explains one of the little rules ie: pot splashing, or the one chip rule. Or an owner posting a rule and its explanation once a week. kind of like a little educational pamphlet, this way everyone can read it and learn something or maybe not but I guarantee someone in the league will say, wow I did not know that rule.

there was a little rule question at my table on Friday about where the extra chip in a pot went in a split pot, there were two understandings of the rule, and one exception in that rule, we called the TD over and it was ruled on, all very civil and efficient. but there were 2 understandings one was that the chip went to the first player to the left of the button no matter what, and the other understanding was if one player was actually on the button they got the extra chip, the dealer at our table was previously told the former, when it was actually the latter.

Hey Doc~

I remember the first situation you are referring to (Second game, Friday night, I was sitting to your right). I agree that it was wrong! It was poor judgement on the player (she thought it was funny) and even worse judgement on the dealer....to reward her the pot.

In hindsight now I suppose we should have called over the TD to 'settle' the situation. There were enough witnesses to clarify the scenario in question.

So, in the future, let's be proactive as players and nip this in the muck.....hehehe

Yet another example of inconsistancy. I have been dealing for quite a while in Medford and have always been told the odd chip goes to the player closest to the left of the button, not on the button, and have been backed up by the TD when questioned.
Now you are saying it should go to the button if that player is involved???!!
Please make one rule and make it known and standard.
